The Forward Bar

Seed Oil-Free Protein Bars — Whole-Food Fat, Not Refined Oil

Finding a genuinely seed oil-free snack is harder than it should be — canola, soybean, sunflower and safflower oil hide in almost every bar on the shelf. The Forward Bar has none, and it's verified Seed Oil Safe by Seed Oil Scout. It's built from whole seeds, nuts and dates — pumpkin seeds, hemp, almonds and flax — so the fat comes from real food, not an extracted, industrially refined oil. That's 12g of protein and a satisfying seed oil-free snack with no canola, no soybean oil, no “vegetable oil,” and no seed oils of any kind. Contains almonds and honey.

FAQ

Seed Oil-Free Protein Bars

What are seed oil-free protein bars?

Yes — The Forward Bar is verified Seed Oil Safe by Seed Oil Scout, the independent directory that verifies products and restaurants that don't use industrial seed oils. They're protein bars made without any refined seed oils — no canola, soybean, sunflower, safflower, corn, grapeseed or “vegetable” oil. Instead of using a cheap extracted oil to bind and soften the bar, a seed oil-free snack like The Forward Bar gets its fat from whole nuts and seeds, so the fat arrives inside real food alongside its fiber, protein and minerals.

Are The Forward Bars seed oil-free?

Yes. There are no seed oils in any flavor — no canola, soybean, sunflower, safflower, corn, grapeseed, rice bran or “vegetable” oil. The fats come from whole almonds, pumpkin seeds, hemp and flax, not from an extracted oil.

You use pumpkin, hemp and flax seeds — isn't that seed oil?

No. “Seed oil” is oil that has been mechanically or chemically extracted from seeds and refined — the whole seed is gone. We use the whole seeds themselves, intact, so you get the fiber, protein and minerals along with the natural fats. Eating a pumpkin seed is not the same as eating refined pumpkin seed oil.

Which seed oils do you avoid?

All of the common ones: canola (rapeseed), soybean, sunflower, safflower, corn, grapeseed and rice bran oil, plus anything labeled “vegetable oil,” which is usually soybean oil.

What fats are in the bar instead?

Whole-food fats from almonds, pumpkin seeds, hemp and flax — including the natural omega-3 (ALA) in flax and hemp. Because they come packaged inside the whole food, they arrive with fiber and protein rather than as an isolated, refined oil.

Why do some people avoid seed oils?

People choose seed oil-free for different reasons — some prefer whole, minimally processed foods over industrially refined oils, others are simply avoiding the cheap canola and soybean oil that fills most snacks. Our approach is straightforward: we'd rather build the bar from whole nuts and seeds than add an extracted oil. If you have a medical condition, check with your doctor about what's right for you.

Is a seed oil-free snack automatically low-fat?

No — and this one isn't. Each bar has 18–22g of fat from whole nuts and seeds. Seed oil-free describes the source of the fat, not the amount. It's a fat that comes with fiber, protein and minerals attached.

Are the bars soy-free and gluten-free too?

Yes. None of the ingredients contains soy or gluten — which also rules out soybean oil, the most common hidden seed oil. Do note they contain almonds (a tree nut) and raw honey, so they're vegetarian but not vegan. Full allergen info is on every pack and product page.
