The problem

Seven bottles. Over three dollars a day. One nagging question.

The stack starts sensibly — a multivitamin, then magnesium for sleep, fish oil for the heart, fiber for digestion, zinc when you feel something coming on. A year later it is a shelf, a monthly bill, and a morning ritual you half-forget...and fully regret.

And still the honest question: Are these actually helping me?

  • Synthetic isolates

Magnesium citrate, dl-alpha tocopherol, ferrous sulfate — lab forms your gut treats differently than food.

  • Nutrients without context

Minerals arrive alone, stripped of the fats, fiber and cofactors that help you use them.

  • $90+ a month

    A typical mag / omega-3 / fiber / zinc stack runs over $3.00 a day

  • Hard on an Empty Stomach

Iron, zinc and magnesium tablets are notorious for nausea and cramping. The same minerals inside food arrive buffered by fiber and fat.

The shift

Nutrients your body already recognizes

In food, nutrients never travel alone. Magnesium arrives in a pumpkin seed alongside zinc, iron and healthy fats. Omega-3s arrive in whole flax and hemp seeds with fiber and lignans. Vitamin E arrives in almonds with the fat that makes it absorbable in the first place. That packaging is the point — and it is exactly what extraction removes.

That's also what a clean label actually means: not a shorter list of chemicals, but a list where every line is a food. Seven base ingredients, each one recognizable, each one traceable to a farm rather than a lab.

The Nutrient Swap

What each shelf item maps to in one bar

Line up the stack against the ingredient panel. Not every bottle disappears — but most become redundant once you get them from the bar.

On your shelf In the bar What you actually get
Daily multivitamin 7 organic whole foods Broad whole-food micronutrients — no premix, no fortification (not a full multivitamin)
Magnesium capsule Pumpkin seeds 45% DV magnesium per bar
Plant omega-3 (ALA) Hemp + flax seeds ~2g whole-food ALA omega-3 from flax & hemp
Fiber supplement Psyllium husk + dates 4g whole-food prebiotic fiber
Protein powder Hemp, pumpkin, almonds 12g complete protein, all 9 essential amino acids
Iron / zinc tablet Pumpkin seeds 25% DV zinc, plus iron and 80% DV manganese
Vitamin E Almonds Vitamin E with the healthy fats that carry it
Copper Bisglycinate Hemp seeds, pumpkin seeds, dates, almonds 70% DV copper in each bar

Values per bar, from the seven base whole-food ingredients — no fortification. The ~2g omega-3 is plant ALA; if you take fish oil specifically for EPA/DHA, that's a different nutrient one bar doesn't replace. Daily nutrition, not a full multivitamin or a substitute for medical advice. % DV is calculated from the mineral content of our ingredients using USDA reference data.

Why the form matters

Four reasons the form matters as much as the number

Read: nutrients from whole foods →
01

Bioavailability

Food delivers minerals with the fats and cofactors that carry them across the gut wall. Vitamin E without fat is a label claim.

02

Clean label, literally

Clean label isn't a marketing term here — it's the whole formulation constraint. No premix, no fortification, no isolates. Every nutrient on the panel traces to one of seven organic foods.

03

Low GI ~35

No refined sugar. No sugar alcohols. Dates and honey paired with protein, fat and fiber releases energy over hours. No 3pm crash, no jitters, no crash-and-refuel cycle.

04

Nothing artificial

No gums, no 'natural flavors,' no seed oils, no preservatives, no sugar alcohols or stevia. Flavor comes from real foods like cacao, vanilla extract, chai spice, lemon oil, and peppermint oil.

Fewer things to buy, remember, and swallow.

FAQ

Honest answers about the swap

Can whole foods replace a multivitamin?

No — and any bar that says otherwise is overselling. One bar covers a meaningful share of the nutrients people most often fall short on — 45% DV magnesium, 4g fiber, plant ALA omega-3s, plus zinc, iron, manganese, copper and vitamin E. Whole foods deliver nutrients in the form your body evolved to absorb: minerals arriving with the fats, fiber and cofactors that help you use them. What it isn't: a 100%-of-everything premix. A multivitamin lists more line items — including vitamin D, B12 and C the bar doesn't cover — so think of one bar as the mineral, fiber and omega part of your routine, in a form your gut recognizes.

Build your bundle

Is it better to get nutrients from food or supplements?

For everyday nutrition, food. Nutrients in food arrive as a package — magnesium from pumpkin seeds comes with zinc, iron and healthy fats; omega-3s from hemp and flax arrive whole with fiber and lignans; fiber from psyllium and dates feeds gut bacteria rather than just adding bulk. Isolated supplements strip that context away. Supplements still earn their place for a diagnosed deficiency — that's a conversation with your doctor, not a label.

Build your bundle

Does The Forward Bar have synthetic vitamins?

No. There is no vitamin premix, no fortification, no synthetic isolates. Every nutrient on the panel comes from the seven organic whole foods in the bar: pumpkin seeds, hemp seeds, dates, almonds, raw unfiltered honey, flax seeds and psyllium husk.

Build your bundle

How much magnesium, omega-3 and fiber are in one bar?

Per bar: 45% DV magnesium, 25% DV zinc, 80% DV manganese, 70% DV copper, 40% DV phosphorus, 4g of whole-food prebiotic fiber from psyllium husk, flax and dates, and roughly 2g of plant ALA omega-3 from hemp and flax — alongside 12g of complete protein with all 9 essential amino acids, plus B1, B2, B3, B6, iron and potassium.

Those are the numbers the panel supports, so those are the ones we lead with. One note we'd rather make ourselves: ALA is the plant omega-3. It isn't the EPA/DHA you'd get from fish oil.

Build your bundle

Is The Forward Bar a meal replacement?

No — it's daily nutrition in snack form. Breakfast on the move, before or after a workout, or the 3pm slump. With 12g protein, 4g fiber and a low glycemic index around 35 it genuinely holds you over, but it isn't engineered to stand in for a full meal, and we won't pretend otherwise.

Build your bundle

Why is there no protein powder in it?

Protein powders are isolates: heat, acid or chemical solvents strip the protein away from the fiber, fats, enzymes and minerals it came with. You get a number on a label without the context that makes protein usable. Our protein comes from whole pumpkin seeds, hemp seeds and almonds — which is also why the bar tastes like food instead of chalk.

Build your bundle

Can one bar simplify my supplement routine?

For some of it, yes — and we'd rather be specific than sweeping. What one bar meaningfully covers: magnesium (45% DV), manganese (80% DV), copper (70% DV), zinc (25% DV), phosphorus (40% DV), fiber (4g, 25% DV), and 12g of complete protein with all 9 essential amino acids. If you're taking a magnesium capsule, a zinc tablet, a fiber supplement or a scoop of protein powder, a bar a day does a real share of that job — as food, with the fats and cofactors that help you absorb it.

Build your bundle

Is The Forward Bar clean label?

Yes — though it's worth saying that "clean label" has no legal definition, so the term is only as good as what's behind it. The working definition most people mean: a short ingredient list, every item recognizable as a food, nothing synthetic, and no additives doing work that food should be doing.

By that standard: seven ingredients, all of them foods — pumpkin seeds, hemp seeds, dates, almonds, raw unfiltered honey, flax seeds and psyllium husk. No vitamin premix, no fortification, no protein isolate, no gums, no "natural flavors," no preservatives, no seed oils, no refined sugar. Flavor comes from cacao, spices and citrus oil. Made in a certified organic facility in the USA, EarthKosher certified.

Every nutrient on the panel traces back to one of those seven foods. There's nothing on the label to look up.

Build your bundle

Will it bother my stomach?

Most people are fine, and the bar avoids the three things that usually cause trouble. Sugar alcohols — maltitol, erythritol, sorbitol — are the most common reason a protein bar causes bloating and cramping, and there are none here. There's no whey or dairy, so no lactose. And there's no inulin or chicory root fiber, which is the other frequent culprit in high-fiber bars.

The honest caveat: the bar has 4g of fiber, some of it from psyllium husk, which absorbs water and expands. If your diet is currently low in fiber, going from very little to several bars a day can feel like a lot at first. Start with one, drink water with it, and give your gut a week. That's ordinary fiber adjustment, not a reaction to the bar.

If you have a diagnosed digestive condition or you're on medication timing that fiber can affect, check with your doctor — psyllium can slow absorption of some drugs.

Build your bundle

Does it contain sugar alcohols, stevia or artificial sweeteners?

No. No erythritol, maltitol, xylitol or sorbitol. No stevia or monk fruit. No sucralose, aspartame or acesulfame potassium. No refined sugar, and no "natural flavors" masking any of it.

The bar is sweetened by two of its seven ingredients: dates and raw unfiltered honey. That's a real trade-off worth naming — it means the bar does contain sugar. What it isn't is fast sugar. Dates and honey arrive alongside 12g of protein, whole-food fats and 4g of fiber, which is why the bar sits at a low glycemic index of about 35 and releases energy over hours instead of spiking and crashing.
